I am great fan of wooden boxes and how you can arrange them in various ways to get storage space and rustic decoration at the same time. In our previous appartment in Warsaw we used Ikea boxes to create wall bedroom shelves and last weekend I used same type of boxes to build a shelf for my desk and arrange a cozy home office corner.
Making DIY wooden boxes shelf
To make my DIY wooden boxes shelf I used four of these 23 x 31 x 15cm Ikea wooden boxes.
In the package you get four walls and the bottom of the box altogether with a set of screws. Ikea provides clear instruction, the only thing you need is a screwdriver or drill.
Simply follow the instructions until you build all four boxes.
Are all the boxes set? This could be basically it if you want to keep your shelf natural, however I decided to paint mine in dark brown – same color we used to renovate old desk. I used venge varnish by polish “Colorit”.
With a thick paintbrush I painted boxes twice, waiting 4 hours between so the varnish could dry. 4 hours after the second painting boxes were almost ready to use. I used my makeup pencil for small corrections.
When varnish dried I set the shelf out of boxes putting them in two 2-boxes columns. The boxes are pretty stable so no extra linkage is needed, just fill the shelf with your office accessories and favourite gadgets.
I like my new corner a lot! Desk’s window orientation makes it full of daylight and nice to work at. How do you like it?
