They say necessity is the mother of invention. It definitely was in this case however it wasn’t a DIY sheepskin rug that I needed so badly but space in the wardrobe occupied by spare faux fur left after my previous DIY projects.
After over 9 months of living in Berlin, we sadly grew up to renting out the flat in Warsaw. Only when you move out you realise how many things you have and then grab your head in desbelief that your wardrobes actually holded it all. As our current appartment in Berlin is quite small, before bringing my belongins from Warsaw I looked through every corner to make sure I don’t keep any unneccessary items I could get rid off. And here it is! Nicely hidden ~1 square meter of thick and fluffy ecru faux fur I was using to make DIY faux fur jacket.
It didn’t take long to come up with idea of how to use it. When visiting Ikea several times this year, I came across nice but pretty expensive faux sheepskin rugs. That was it! 15 minutes with Pinterest and next 15 with scissors later there was a nice sheepskin shape faux fur rug lying in front of me.
Making DIY sheepskin rug
To make a rug similar to mine, you will need:
– 1 square meter of faux fur – any color will be fine, however white (ecru) or black looks most natural
– washable pen
First draw a shape on the left side of your fur.
Cut it out gently along the line.
For more natural look please remember to place your scissors between the material and fur while cutting to make sure you cut the material and not the fur. Here you can see the difference:
Once you cut out the shape, your faux sheepskin rug is ready!
How do you like the effect?
